ABOUT

I have been drawing and painting since I could hold a pencil and brush, but gave up the opportunity to go to Art College in favour of the chance of travel offered by studying modern languages at university. I always kept the sketch book with me.... 

My working life took me to the world of books and publishing. The skill of illustrators bringing stories to life was intriguing, more so was the realisation that painting could be narrative and open to all kinds of interpretation, limited only by the imagination. 

I have a little studio in the East Neuk which has been called by some The Blue Wigwam. It’s good.

​In the many years between, I have taught myself, practised and, most helpfully, Iearned from great teachers and reclaimed the Art College experience. 

Many of my paintings are in OILS, a medium I love for its subtle effects. But it is a slower process, better suited to studio work. For more immediate effects, I also work in ACRYLICS which give strong colour and a fast impression. They also mix well with other media, especially inks, which I also use.

I use canvas boards for some acrylic paintings; mostly the paintings are on stretched canvas. Many paintings are also available as prints, Giclee printed on high-quality fine art paper (see PRINT section).

All paintings and prints come with their "Story" printed on card.
